SEI Launches Leadership in AI for Cybersecurity Application Workshop

April 15, 2026—Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have expanded and accelerated cyber threats as well as the tools to defend against them. To support the cyber workforce’s adoption of AI, the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is offering a new workshop on building practical AI solutions for cybersecurity. SEI experts will teach the first instance of the CERT Leadership in AI for Cybersecurity Application Workshop on June 2-3, live online.
The workshop is intended for cybersecurity analysts, data scientists, government analysts, technical leaders, and software developers and engineers. Instructors of the two-day, immersive workshop guide participants through an end-to-end AI project using a cybersecurity dataset of vulnerabilities in JavaScript source code functions on public GitHub repositories.
“Today’s cyber adversaries are using AI and other advanced technologies to craft their attacks, so cybersecurity professionals must use AI to thwart them,” said Tom Scanlon, the technical manager for data science in the SEI’s CERT Division and the workshop’s principal curriculum developer. “This program is designed to teach you AI skills within the context of the cyber domain, so that you can develop more robust AI-enabled cyber defenses.”
Students will work individually and in small teams on a capstone project, mirroring the types of AI-enabled cybersecurity problems encountered in real-world environments. They will also consider how the solution might be deployed to provide value for their organization.
The workshop integrates the SEI’s expertise in cyber workforce development, vulnerability research, and cybersecurity engineering. It is the capstone course for the CERT Leadership in AI for Cybersecurity Professional Certificate program. Visit the workshop page for prerequisites, schedule, and registration information.
