Emily Newman
Software Engineering Institute
Emily is an autonomy engineer for the Autonomy Lab within the AI Division. She supports research and development in robotic planning and tasking, simulation environments, and the evaluation of unmanned autonomous systems. Before joining the SEI, Emily worked as a software systems engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where she helped drive the Curiosity rover on Mars, supported the CADRE mission to demonstrate collaborative autonomy on the Moon, and developed a live telemetry-based visualization for the Perseverance Mars landing. Emily holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University. Her research interests include applying AI-driven multi-agent planning and tasking methods across multiple domains such as sea, air, and space.
