Softtek Executive Agustin De La Maza to Keynote SEPG North America 2010

Pittsburgh, PA, January 6, 2010—Recognized as a pioneer and leader of the near-shore services industry in Mexico, Agustin De La Maza has been announced as a keynote speaker at SEPG North America 2010, March 21 – 25, 2010, in Savannah, Georgia.

De La Maza, director of Softtek’s Global Application Development Practice, leads the organization’s software process improvement and innovative initiatives across Softtek’s nine global delivery centers. Under his direction, Softtek has undertaken the adoption and implementation of the SEI’s Team Software Process (TSP) for outsourced application development projects, the use of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) for application architecture and framework design, and the integration of Agile development methods into a high-maturity remote development environment.

“Softtek works to reduce the complexity of IT services management and support the globalization of IT and business-process outsourcing operations across the globe,” De La Maza said. “We have been able to do this by implementation of best practices like the SEI’s TSP and CMMI methodologies. I am honored to speak at SEPG North America 2010 and share Softtek’s experiences in positioning Mexico as a leader in global near-shore sourcing.”

Prior to his current position, De La Maza served as director of Softtek’s Global Delivery Center in Mexico City, leading a team of 600 software engineers providing application development, maintenance, and support services to several Fortune 50 corporations. During his leadership, the Mexico City center was assessed as Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Level 5 and started the TSP implementation for several medium- and large-sized application development projects, achieving significant improvements to defect density and on-time delivery metrics.

“Softtek has been a pioneer in Mexico in the adoption and use of TSP,” said Anita Carleton, acting director of the Software Engineering Process Management Program at the SEI. “TSP can help organizations—like Softtek—build self-directed teams that produce quality software products defect-free and on schedule. We are pleased that they will be sharing their story with our conference attendees.”

During his 19-year career at Softtek, De La Maza has also served as chief solutions architect, senior program manager, Software Engineering Process Group corporate director, Six Sigma project champion and Black Belt, senior consultant for software engineering process definition and implementation, and CASE tools development leader.

De La Maza graduated summa cum laude from Monterrey Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in computer systems engineering. He has also specialized in software engineering, Six Sigma, IT governance, project management, and ontological business coaching disciplines. He is a frequent speaker at academic, government and industry conferences and forums.
