October 19, 2009—Recently, several technical staff members at the SEI were recognized by their peers for their contributions to science, technology, and software engineering. 

IEEE, the world’s largest professional association advancing innovation and technological excellence, elevated Gabe Moreno and Carol Woody to senior member status. Moreno works with the Architecture-Centric Engineering (ACE) team at the SEI. Moreno has several years of software development experience in industry and government. His current research interests include predictable assembly, performance modeling and simulation, component-based software engineering, and computational mechanism design. 

Woody is a senior member of the CERT technical staff. She has more than 25 years of experience in software development and project management leading acquisitions and implementations in industry and government. Woody’s current research is focused on software assurance and approaches to software design that improves operational security. Woody was also recognized by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) as an ACM senior member. ACM is the world’s largest educational and scientific computing society. 

Stephen Blanchette was recently elected as an associate fellow in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). AIAA is the principal society of aerospace engineers and scientists. Blanchette, a senior member of the SEI technical staff, manages a team providing consultation on a range of software engineering topics to the U.S. Army’s Program Executive Office (PEO), Integration program. He also participates in the Army Strategic Software Improvement Program (ASSIP), sponsored by the Army Acquisition Executive, to improve acquisition practices throughout the Army. 

Lawrence G. Jones, senior member of the technical staff, received two distinctions. Jones was named a fellow of ABET and a fellow of CSAB. ABET is the recognized accrediting body for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology; CSAB is the lead society within ABET for accreditation programs. Jones was one of five individuals recognized by ABET for their sustained quality service to the ABET-related professions.  ABET officials stated that Jones was recognized “for leadership in ABET’s Accreditation Council and Computing Accreditation Commission.” Jones leads the Product Line Practice Initiative at the SEI and serves as the lead for the Product Line Technical Probe method. He had a distinguished career in the United States Air Force and has an extensive background in software development, management, and education positions.
