SEI and NASSCOM Host SEPG Asia-Pacific 2010

August 25, 2010—Marking the second time SEPG was held in the Asia-Pacific region and the first time the conference collaborated with NASSCOM, SEPG Asia-Pacific 2010 was held in dynamic Bangalore, India on August 17-19. The Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute presented the conference in conjunction with the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), which is the premier trade body and the chamber of commerce of the Information Technology (IT)-Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industries in India.

During the first two days of the three-day conference, SEPG Asia-Pacific 2010 delegates from India, Japan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and other countries around the world participated in tutorials on the soon-to-be-released CMMI Version 1.3 model and the CMMI for Services model. 

“The delegates’ response to tutorials was very positive. The CMMI for Services tutorial, conducted by Eileen Forrester, CMMI for Services team lead at the SEI, captured the interest of the approximately 150 delegates who attended the session,” commented  Paul D. Nielsen, chief executive officer and director of the SEI. “Additionally, the CMMI Version 1.3 tutorial conducted by Mike Phillips, CMMI manager at the SEI, was so well-attended that an additional tutorial session was added to the agenda.”

The NASSCOM Quality Summit Workshop was held on August 19. Nielsen made the opening keynote presentation to more than 250 delegates.  Later that day, Anita Carleton, director of the SEI's Software Engineering Process Management Program, Phillips, and Forrester led a highly interactive panel discussion on technical developments in software process improvement at the SEI.

SEPG Asia-Pacific 2010 offered in-person and virtual networking opportunities too. The SEI hosted a meeting of India-based members of the SEI Partner Network where they had an opportunity to connect with Lisa Masciantonio, SEI Partner Network manager, via a virtual conference from Pittsburgh.

“Many old relationships were rekindled with those who have attended previous SEPG conferences in North America as well as those who have come to the SEI in Pittsburgh and Arlington, Va., for training,” remarked Carleton.  “And many new friendships were formed during the many opportunities for the SEI to interact directly with the conference delegates during breaks and lunches served at the ITC Royal Gardenia Hotel."
