SEI Researchers Win Best Paper Award at STIDS 2014 Conference

November 24, 2014—A paper co-authored by the SEI's Daniel L. Costa, Matthew L. Collins, Samuel J. Perl, Michael J. Albrethsen, George Silowash, and Derrick Spooner has won The Michael Dean Best Paper Award at the 9th International Conference on Semantic Technologies for Intelligence, Defense, and Security (STIDS 2014).
The paper, An Ontology for Insider Threat Indicators, describes the development of an insider threat indicator ontology. This ontology provides a mechanism for sharing and testing indicators of insider threat among multiple participants without compromising organization-sensitive data, thereby enhancing the data fusion and information sharing capabilities of the insider threat detection domain.
Each year at the STIDS conference, representatives from academia, government, and industry gather to share the latest research on semantic technology for defense, intelligence and security applications. The Michael Dean Best Paper Award honors the best contribution to the STIDS proceedings and promotes continuing efforts to push forward the state of the art in semantic technologies for intelligence, defense, and security.
