The SEI helps advance software engineering principles and practices and serves as a national resource in software engineering, computer security, and process improvement. The SEI works closely with defense and government organizations, industry, and academia to continually improve software-intensive systems. Its core purpose is to help organizations improve their software engineering capabilities and develop or acquire the right software, defect free, within budget and on time, every time.
Robert W. Stoddard II serves as a Principal Researcher within the SEI Software Solutions Division responsible for promoting use of advanced, modern statistical, probabilistic and simulation techniques for both software-intensive systems research and client support. Robert's research interests span cybersecurity, secure coding, insider threat, engineering management, software reliability, software quality, software process improvement and cost estimation. Robert possesses over 33 years experience including over 9 years with the SEI, 7 years with Motorola, 14 years with Texas Instruments and 4 years active duty with the US Army. Robert is an active PhD candidate with Walden University in Engineering Management in addition to an ABD in a PhD with University of Maryland at College Park in Reliability Engineering. Robert also holds an MS in Systems Management with the University of Southern California and a BS in Finance and Accounting with the University of Maine at Orono. Robert is a co-author of two books including "Design for Reliability (Quality and Reliability Engineering Series)" (2012) and "CMMI and Six Sigma: Partners in Process Improvement (SEI Software Engineering Series)" (2007). Robert is a senior member of both the American Society for Quality and the IEEE and remains active with the ASQ Software and Reliability Divisions. Robert serves on the ASQ Certification Board for the Certified Six Sigma Black Belt exam and holds 5 ASQ certifications in Six Sigma, Software Quality Engineering, Quality Engineering, Reliability and Auditing. Robert's most recent focus includes structural equation modeling, Bayesian Belief Network modeling and simulation (Discrete Event and Monte Carlo). Robert holds certifications as a Motorola Six Sigma Master Black Belt since 2003 and Motorola Six Sigma Black Belt since 1993.
